안녕하세요! 하니에듀 본사 26기 미국공립교환 김예진이라고 합니다! 벌써 3월이네요! 미국에 도착한지가 벌써 7월 전이라니.. 시간이 정말 빠른 것 같아요! 이제 좀있으면 봄방학(Spring Break)이 시작되서 그때 동안 New York로 CIEE Trip을 가요! 는 제가 정말 가고싶은 곳 중에 하나라서 정말 기대되요♥
Hi! I am YejinKim for American Exchange student form 26th Han. Already March! The day I arrive to America was 7 month ago.. Time is so fast. And Spring Break is coming soon, so I am going to go NewYork for CIEE Trip!! The New York city is one of the places that I really want to visit. So I am so extied♥

 제가 이번에 소개해드릴 내용은 바로 학교에요! 제 생각에는 학교가 가장 중요한 것 같아요. 왜냐면 일주일에 5일을 가고, 친구들도 사귀고 방과후활동 등 여러 활동들도 할 수 있으니까요! 그리고 미국공립학교는 정말 한국에서 다니던 학교들과는 정말 달라요. 그래서 처음에 복잡하고, 어떻게 해야할지 모르는 것들도 있었지만, 지금은 좋은 선생님들,친구들 덕분에 잘 적응하고 재밌게 지내고 있어요!
The topic I introduce is SCHOOL! I think school is the most important part for exchange student. Because school is the place we spend 5 days in a week, we can make frieds and do many activities like after school activities(sports,clubs).And American Public High school is very very different from Korean High School that I used to go to. So it was little confusing and I didn't know how to do that. But I've met nice teachers and friends. Thus, I am having great time in here!

1)학교소개

제가 다니고 있는 North Bullitt High School은, 학생수가 거의 1000명이나 되는 꽤 큰 규모의 학교에요.큰 규모의 학교의 다양한 수업들과 여러 방과후 활동이 많아서 다양한 활동을 할 수 있다는 것 같아요. 학생 수가 많다보니까 수업이동 할 때 같은 경우에는 좀 북적거리기는 하지만 ,많은 친구들도 사귈 수 있다는 장점이 있어요! 학교를 상징하는 동물은 독수리이구요,색깔은 초록,노랑,흰색이에요.

The North Bullitt High school that I am going, is pretty big school that has about 1000 students. The advantages of big school are there are many variety and many classes  and activities I can experience and participate. Evem though, the time to move the class is so crowd, I think it is good to make many friends in school! The animal of school is Eagle, and the symbol colors are green,yellow, and white.

2)미국 공립학교의 다른점
미국공립 고등학교에는 정말 다른 부분들이 많은데요, 그에대해 짧게 설명하겠습니다! 

I will tell the differeneces between Korean highschool and American public highschool. There are so mamy different things.

1. 학기 : 미국학교는 1학기가 8월이나 9월에 시작하구요, 1월에 2학기가 시작되고, 보통 5월이나 6월에 학교가 끝나요. 그리고 한국 고등학교와 달리 방학같은게 없고, 주로 Break라고해서 1주나 2주정도 학교가 쉬고 학교가 끝난 후 부터 시작할 때까지 거의 3개월간의 공백이 있어요.
1. Semester: The starting of 1st semester is on August or September, 2nd semester is on January, and usually it is over on May or June. And there is no vacation like Korean highschool, they have Break for one or two weeks. And since the school is over, they have long break for 3 months.

2.점심:  학교점심시간은 많이 달라요. 한국에서는 점심 종이 땡~ 울리면 모든 학생들이 다 식당으로 가서 밥을 먹는데, 미국학교에서는 각 교실마다 몇번째 종이 울릴때 그 교실 학생들이 식당이나 체육관으로 가서 밥을 먹어요. 저희  점심은 5교시 중에 있어서 다른 수업보다 수업시간이 길어요.제 5교시 수업은 마지막,4번째 점심이라서 수업이 끝난 후에 점심을 먹어서 그 시간이 길게 느껴져요..ㅠ. 그리고 처음 갔을 때나 점심 먹을때 같은 수업듣는 친구한테 'Can I have lunch with you?' 라고 물어보면 대부분 'Sure!'이라고 해요. 그러니까 말성이지 마시고 먼저 다가가세요!

2. Lunch: Lunch time is also different. Every students in korean highshcool heads to the cafeteria and eats the lunch food after the bell rings , But when the class's lunch bell rings, the students in the classes head to the cafeteria or gym to get their lunch food. My lunch bell rings in the end of the 5th period, So I feel the time is so long..And when you get there first, or during the lunch time. You should ask  to friends who have same lunch class with you,'Can I have lunch with you?' and most of them say 'Sure!'. So Do not hesitate ,and go for it!

3. 수업 :  수업도 굉장히 달라요. 학교시간표가 정해져있는 게 아니라, 처음 학교 간 날에 카운슬러를 만나고 그때 수업을 정해요. 교환학생들에게는 미역사와 영어가 필수과목인데, 수학이랑 과학수업은 학교마다 다른 것 같아요. 이 점이 저한테는 신기했던 것 같아요. 수업을 한번도 제가 정해본 적이 없으니까요! 그래서 무슨 수업이 있는지도 몰라서 여러번 수업을 바꾼 적이 있었는데요, 그것도 기간이 있어요. 주로 학교가 개학하고난 후에 2주나 3주 두면 더이상 바꿀 수 없어요. 왜냐면 그때부터 점수들이 들어가기 시작해서, 바꾸시고 싶으면 최대한 빨리 바꾸는 게 좋을 것 같아요! 그리고 또다른 점은, 학교 수업시간에 내 책상,내의자가 있는 교실에 머물러있고 선생님들이 매교시마다 들어오는 한국 고등학교와달리, 미국고등학교는 매교시마다 그 교실로 가서 수업을 들어야해요.그리고 쉬는시간도 5분으로  락커도가야되고, 선생님께 물어볼 것도 있고 처음에 학교 갔을 때는 교실이 어딨는지 몰라서 헤맸을 때도 있어서 쉬는 시간이너무 짧다고 생각했지만,이제는 적응되서 빠르게 다녀요. 그리고 이런 경우에는 선생님께 물어보고나서 락커나 화장실 가야한다고노트써달라고 하면 흔쾌히 써주실거에요.
3.Classes:  Classes are very different,too. Everyone has different school schedule. Go to the counselor at first day of school and get  schedule. US History and English are mandatory classes for exchange students. But I am not sure if math and science are or not. It depands on what school you are going to. This point was cool and odd thing to me. Because I've never been setting my school schedule! I didn't know what classes that this shcool has. So I've changed some classes that I don't want to have. But it has limited time about 2 or 3 weeks right after the started day of school. Thus, you should change your classes quickly before you can't change  if you want to.  Another thing that I've thought it is different is moving each periods(classes). Because in Korea, I  have my desk and chair, stay in one classroom and teacher comes to the class for each period.  And the break is 5 minutes, I'd thought it is too short to go the locker, ask something to teachers or go to restroom, But now, it is ok to me. And in this case, you can ask to the teacher that you need to get the note for next period.

3)수업소개

Introduction of classes 

NBHS에는 6교시의 수업이 있는데요, 시간은 이렇게 되요. 1교시가 너무 일찍 시작해서 아침에 일찍일어나야되서 피곤해요..ㅠ 하지만 그만큼 학교도 2시에 끝나서 방과후에 남아서 여러 활동도 할 수 있고, 집에 일찍 올수있어서 좋아요!

NBHS has 6 periods of classes, the time is below. The time to start shcool is so early that I am tired to get up so early in the moring..:(. However, school is over earlier at 2 p.m. So I can do many activities by staying after school or get home early!

제 학교시간표는
1교시  미역사3, US History3  (1st period): 7:20-8:20 

2교시  합창단, Mixed Chorus,Choir(2nd period): 8:25-9:20 

3교시 지구과학,Earth&Space science (3rd period): 9:25-10:20

  4교시 영어3,  English3 (4th period): 10:25-11:20 

5 교시 알지브라2, Algebra2(5th period): 11:25-12:35

6교시 이얼북, Yearbook(6th period): 1:05-2:05

1교시 : 미역사 (US History 3)

한국에서 교환학생을 준비할때 들었듯이, 교환학생들에게 가장 힘든 과목이 미역사라는 말이 맞는 것 같더라구요.. 한국사에도 여러 어려운단어들이 있듯이, 미역사에도 제가 한번도 보지못한 단어들도 꽤 있구요. 그래서 처음 수업들을 때는 숙제가 뭔지,어떻게 공부해야하는지 몰라서 선생님께 수업시간,방과후에 많이 물어봤어요. 그럴때 미역사 선생님도 제가 영어가 제2의 언어이고, 또 미역사 수업은 다른 학생들에게들도 어려운 과목이라고 하시더라구요. 그래도 모르는 게 창피한 게 아니니까 그때그때 선생님께 물어보고, 방과후에 남아서 이것저것 물어보는 것 도 좋은 것 같아요! 처음에는 어려울 수 있으니까 한국에서 미역사에 관한 책을 가지고 오는 것도 좋은것 같아요. 물론 도움도 됬구요! 그리고 미역사 선생님도 쿨하시고,좋으세요.그리고 그 선생님의 수업방식도 조금 다른데요, 선생님께서 오늘공부할 주제에 대해서 얘기하시고있으실때 이거 중요하다고 하면 저희의 단어로 필기를 하거나, 자신이 중요하다고 생각하는 부분에 대해서 자신의 단어로 필기를하고 그거를 공부하는 방식이에요. 저희 미역사 선생님이 다양한 시도를 하는 것을 좋아하셔서 저번에는 세계2차 전쟁에서 일본의 진주만 폭격사건에 대해서 토론을 했는데요. 토론도 영어도 해야해서 좀 준비를 해가야 했지만, 제가 하고 싶은 얘기도 하고 다른 친구들의 토론도 들어서 흥미로운 시간이었던 것 같아요!

As I've heard exchange student things before I came here, I think it is right  that US history is the hardest subject for the exchange student. Like there are many difficult words in korean history, many difficult english words in us history, too. So when the first time of us history was confusing that I didn't know what I am suppossed to do like homeworks,acitivity, stuff like that. So i'd asked questions to the teacher of us history whenever I don't know what to do, like during afterschool or break. The teacher understands that English is my 2nd language, and says us history is also difficult to American students. Not knowing is NOT embarrassing things, so it is good to  ask the teacher or stay afterschool to study it! Also I recommend to bring US History book in Korean, It might be able to help you. And my us history teacher is cool and nice. She is one of my favorite teachers. And the way that the my us history teacher teaches is little different, like when we get notes, it should be noted that the important part that I think from her saying  about the topic or discuss about the topic.  My us history teacher likes to try new things, so few days ago, we discussed about the Pearl Harbor attack of Japan. I should discuss in English, so I need to prepare it before the debate. But it was so interesting, listening to other friends' saying and having debate.

2교시 :합창단  (Mixed Chorus,Choir)

교환학생 오기전에 하고싶은 여러 수업들이 있었는데요, 아무래도 한국에서 경험해지못한 그런 수업들을 하고 싶었는데, 그중에 하나가 바로 합창단 수업이었어요. 왜냐면 한국학교에서는 음악이라는 수업이있지만, 합창단을 조직해서 공연이나 대회를 나가는 경우는 없잖아요. 그래서 수업정할때 합창단 수업하고 싶다고 해서 다행히도 있더라구요! 그 수업 친구들도 굉장히 좋고, 선생님도 좋아서 정말 좋아하는 수업이에요! 예비교환학생분들도 수업정할때 합창단 수업있는지 물어보시고 노래하는 거 좋아하시면 정말 추천이에요! 저도 노래 부르는 거에 뛰어나지는 않지만, 그래도 노래부르는 거 좋아하고, 합창단은 같이 부르고,또 내가 하고 싶은거니까 열심히 하자고 생각했거든요! 한번도 해보지 못한, 한국학교에 없는 거에 도전해 본 것 같아요 뿌듯해요:) 

 Before I came here, there are several classes I wanted to have that I'd never experienced or not in high school in Korea. One of them was Choir. Because even though there is music class in korean school, they don't organize choir group to compete with the other teams or show  what they've practice like concert. So I asked to my counselor that there is any choir class in this school. Fortunately, it is in this school! The teacher and friends are so nice, so this class is one of my favorite classes:). Even though I am not good at singing, I like to sing, and I think it doesn't matter, because choir is colaboration of singing and the most important thing is I can experience new thing and need to be confident that I want to do! So I am satisfied that I've tired to do new things! Thus, I really recommend to have choir class to the students who are going to be exchange student!

3월7일에는 학교 체육관에서 다른학교에서 온 애들과 같이 공연을 했는데요, 합창단 수업듣고 나서 처음으로 공연을 하는 거기도하고, 또 그렇게 많은 사람들 앞에서 노래 불러본 적은 처음이라 떨렸지만 잘 끝낸 것 같아요! 그리고 다른 공연들도 멋있었구요,

On March 7th, We had concert with students from other schools. The concert was the first time that I've ever had since I've been in choir classroom, and I 've never sang songs in front of that many people. Although it was nervous, I think we did great job!

그리고 3월21일,바로 며칠 전이죠! 학교에서 그리 멀지않은 곳으로 합창대회를 갔는데요. 정말 재밌었습니다xD 가서 친구들과 같이 노래도 부르고, 처음해보는 일이라서 설레기도 하고! 새로운 경험을 또 한 것 같아서 뿌듯합니당^^

And just a few days ago, March 21st! Our choir team went to not that far town to have contest. It was AWESOME. Sing with choir friends, it was my first competition, so it was exciting! I am satisfied to have new experience.

3교시: 지구과학 (Earth & Space Science)

알지브라2는 제가  지금 하고있는 수학수업인데요! 또 가장 좋아하는 수업이에요! 그 수업에 있는 친구들도 좋고, 제가 좋아하는 수학을 배우고 또 다른 교환학생분들이 말하듯이 쉬워서 5교시를 즐겁게 보내요. 근데 가끔씩은 제가 한번도 보지 못한 그런 내용도 있지만, 응용이 그리 많지않고 공식이나 선생님께서 나눠주신 숙제나 문제들과 거의 다른 게 없어서 그리 어렵지않아서 점수가 잘 나오는 과목이에요! 그리고 미국 고등학교에서는 수업시간이나 시험시간에도 공학계산기를 사용할 수 있어요. 공학계산기는 단순히 숫자 계산만 하는게 아니라 여러 그래프나 log같이 다양한 방법으로 쓸 수 있는 계산기인데요, 처음에 필요할 거 같아서 가격을 알아보니 거의 10만원가량해서 사기에는 좀 그랬는데, 다행히 선생님께서 수업시간을 위한 계산기들을 가지고 계셔서 지금 그 계산기를 수업시간에 사용하고 있어요. 그리고 수업시간에 발표도 거의 숫자나 간단한 용어들만 말하고 내용도 쉽다보니까 발표도 자주 해요. 발표는 많이 하면 할 수록 좋은 거니까요!
 Algebra2 is the math class that I am taking! Also my favorite class! I like the students and teacher because they are nice. And I am learning that I like, and it is easy like other exchange students have said to me. So I am having great 5th period. Sometimes, there are some topics that I haven't even seen or learned. But  they don't require alot of difficult things, most of them require just equation or they are similiar to things on paper that the teacher handed to me. And also they are kind of easy. And in American high school allows to use calculator during the class or test. The calculator is different from the calculator that we have known, It can graph, use more difficult things as log. I thought I need it so tried to find the price of it, but it is too expensive to buy  about $100.. Fortunately, the teacher has one for me, Thus, I am using it. 
 
                                                                  6교시:  Yearbook 
 

이번 수업은 조금 생소할 수 있는 수업인데요, 바로  YearBook수업이에요.  Yearbook은 졸업생의 사진들만 있는 졸업앨범과 달리, 전교생의 사진들과 학교에서 있었던 행사나 축제들을 사진으로 찍어서 만드는 앨범이에요. 물론 졸업하는 학생들,12학년(senior)의 사진들도 있지만,또 9학년(freshmen),10학년(sophomore),11학년(junior)의 사진들도 있어요. 이 앨범은 보통 10~11월에 나와서 학기중에 준비를 해야해요. 그래서 이 수업시간 중에 사진을 추가하거나 편집하거나 선생님께서 주신 행사나 동아리의 사진을 찍는 등 여러 과제들이 있어요. 제가 사진찍는 것도 좋아하고 재미있을 것 같아서 하겠다고 카운슬러한테 말했거든요. 또 담당 선생님께서도 저에게 제가 교환학생이다 보니까 그에대한 과제도 주셔서 지금 열심히 하고 있답니다! 그리고 위에 있는 사진도 제가 아침에 도서관에서 있는 동아리 미팅을 가서 찍은 사진이에요. 비록 공부와 밀접하게 관련된 수업은 아니지만, 사진 찍는 것도 좋아하고, 또 재미잇을 것 같아서 했는데 재미는 물론,새로운 경험을 하게 되어서 좋은 수업인 것 같아요!
 This period can be little unusual, Yearbook class. Yearbook is different album from the graduation album we have known that has pictures of all the students,events,and festival. Of course, there are pictures of 12th grade students,seniors, but also pictures of 9th(freshmen),10th(sophomore),11th(junior) grades. The album will be shown between October and November. So they need to prepare it during the semesters. So the teacher gave us assignment like taking picture of clubs,sports,events,etc or the students do organizing things. I like to take pictures and want to try new things so that's why I chose this class for 6th period. And one of the assignments the teacher gave me is organizing exchange student page in the yearbook. So I am working hard on that! The above pictures is one of the pictures I've been taking for the yearbook, it is the club meeting in library in the morning. Even though the class is not close to studying things,I think the class is nice. Because itgives me chances to take pictures and  have new experiences.
