It's time for Summer!

Hi everyone :) This is Jiyeon Ahn as 25th foreign exchange student through Hani Edu. I'm in ETC.I'm 16 years old in America(11th grade in High school).I will be a senior in next year.( Freshman is 9th, Sophomore is 10th, Junior 11th. Senior is 12th) I live in Paonia, Colorado where is located in the west of Colorado and very small town, I want to let you guys know about my life in here so you could have some informations and tis about foreign exchang student. I hope you guys can get some tips from me! First topic is what you need before you become an exchange student.

첫째로 영어가 부족하더라도 이해해주셨으면 좋겠네요! :)

First, I'm asking for your understanding if I mess up my english, please :)

1.짐싸기

우선 날씨를 알아서 날씨에 맞게끔 옷을 싸세요. 확실하진 않치만, 오리건주는 비가 자주 내리고 콜로라도주는 여름엔 엄청덥고 겨울엔 엄청 춥고, 애리조나주는 여름엔 정말 덥고 겨울엔 따듯한 것 같아요.구글에 검색하는게 젤 빠를듯!ㅎㅎ 그리고 가능한 한 최소로 그리고 정말 필요한 것들만 싸세요. 혼자서 그 많은 짐을 어떻게 끌고 다니시게요! 분명 돌아올때 두배로 불어날거에요. 미국와서 언제든지 원하는 것을 살 수 있으니 걱정마세요! 그리고 카메라 꼭 챙겨가세요. 교환학생이라는게 결코 흔한 일은 아니잖아요. 나중에 미국에서의 기억들을 까먹고 싶지 않으시다면 꼭 사지 많이 찍으시구요. 저는 폴라로이드도 챙겨왔어용!

1. PACKING

You should get information about the weather so you can prepare your clothes.I'm not sure but I think it often rains in Oregon and it's really hot in summer and cold in winter in Colorado, and it's really hot in every season in Arizona. It's probably fast to google. Pack your clothes to the minimum as you can and what you really need.It helps you to bring your baggage yourself in an airport. It definitely will be doubled. You can always get whatever you want in America so don't worry about it. Bring your own camera!. Being an exchange student is not common stuff at all. You don't want to lose your memory that you get in America later. You should take tons of pictures in here. I even brought a Polaroid.

2.선물

호스트가족이나 다른 사람들을 위해 한국적인 선물을 사가세요! 저는 호스트맘을 위한 자개보석함, 포토그래퍼인 호스트대디를 위한 자개 usb카드, 호스트시스터를 위한 한복! 그리고 누구에게든지 줄 수 있는 한국적인 모양의 손톱깍기, 핸드폰 걸이, 거울, 부채, 서류카드등 많이 사갔어요. 선물사기전에 호스트가족이 뭘 좋아할지 생각해보고 사는게 좋을 것같아요!그리고 모두다 남대문시장에서 샀어요. 남대문시장이 한국적인 물품사기엔 젤 싸고 좋은 곳인것 같아요. 그리고 새콤달콤이나 마이쮸가 짱! 남녀노소 다 좋아하니까 꼭 가져가세요!

2.GIFT

You should buy some korean gifts for your host or whoever. I bought a pearl jewel box for host mom, a

 pearl usb card for host dad who is a photographer, 2 Hanboks for host sisters and simple korean stuffs for everyody. You should think about what would be good for host. I bought all of them in Namdaemun market.

Namdaemun will be the best place for buying Korean stuffs and it's very cheap!. 새콤달콤 or 마이쮸 is the best thing ever for everybody. Don't forget to bring 새콤달콤 or 마이쮸!

아이들이 생각보다 너무 마르고 작아서 한복이 너무커서 당황했었던..;;ㅎㅎ

3.돈

제 생각엔 달러를 현금으로 3개월치를 가져가는게 좋을 것 같아요.그 3개월동안 한국에서 온 돈을 어떻게 찾을 수 있을지 해결하실 수 있을꺼에요. 저같은경우엔 이곳에 시티은행도 없고 여러가지 이유로 힘들었어요. 어떤일이 일어날지 모르니까 만약을 대비해서 현금 꼭 챙겨가시구요!

3.MONEY

I thinkg you should bring some cash for 3 months. Then during 3 months, you could find out to withdraw your money from Korea. Well in my case, there is no City bank and  so it was hard to find out to withdraw my money for various reasons at first. Who knows what may happen. So just bring some cash just in case!

4.출국 전

호스트와 스카이프 페이스북이나 이메일로 꼭 연락을 하시고, 몇시쯤에 공항에 도착한다 던지 뭐든지 얘기하세요! 그래서 호스트가 시간에 맞춰 저 데릴러 공항에 올수 있을거구요. 저는 호스트와 스카이프를 햇엇어 공항에서 얼굴을 바로 알아 볼수 있었어요. 그리고 호스트만났을 때 큰 포옹와 "Thank you" 하는 거 잊지 마시구요 물론 "You're welcome"두요.

4.Before Departure

You should contact with your host through Skype, Facebook or Email and let them know what time you will het the airport or whatever so your host can pick you up in time! I skyped with my host family, so I could recognize their face in the airport! Then when you get an airport and meet them, do not forget to give them a big hug and say "Thank you". Of course "You're welcome"

그밖에 또 필요한 것들은 호스트에게 달려 있는 것 같아요. 호스트랑 애기하면서 뭐가 필요할 지 생각해보세요!

What else you need depends on your host so you should talk with them and think about what you need.

5.공부

회화공부를 해두세요! 물론 여러분이 이미 영어를 잘하는 것을 알고있습니다 저보다도..ㅎㅎ 당연히 영어를 읽고 쓸 줄 알겟죠 하지만 미국에서 산다면 회화가 필요합니다!! 완전 다른문제에요! 회화를 재밌게 배우고싶으시다면 미국드라마 프렌즈같은거 보시면서 공부할 수 있구요.그리구 어휘력을 늘리세요!!!

5.STUDY

You need to study conversational English! I know you guys are already good at english and better than I am. Of course you can read and write in English but if you live in America, you absolutely need conversational English. It's totally different. To learn conversational English with fun, you could watch some American shows like "Friends" or whatever you watn. It will help you. And expand your vocabulary.
