Hello, this is Ju Yeon from Oregon
In America, one of the big and important day is in October. And I’m pretty sure many of you guys know what it is. It’s Halloween! Halloween is not that big deal in Korea but it is very big deal to almost every America people. But surprisingly my host family told me that they don’t celebrate Halloween so instead of dressed up and going trick or treat or decorating the house, I carved the pumpkin with my host sister in Halloween. It was my first time carving pumpkin so Leigha(my hostsister) helped me a lot. After Spent almost 3hours,I could be able to finish carving pumpkin. It was really fun but definitly needed a lot of effort to finish it.
In October, Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze are also the biggest event that happens in October and those are pretty much related to Halloween. So originally, a pumpkin patch was the area of a garden where the pumpkins were planted and tended. The word "patch" has been used to describe a plot of land going back centuries. In modern use, a pumpkin patch typically describes a farm that stocks a large amount of pumpkins in the month of October. Often only some of the pumpkins are grown on-site and the rest are purchased. Families go to the pumpkin patch to select their pumpkins for carving. It’s a Halloween tradition in the United States. So mom took me and Leigha to the nearest pumpkin patch. We took a lot of pictures and also bought pumpkins to carve in Halloween. And corn maze is like any maze you would see on paper except the design is set in a cornfield. Instead of solving the maze with a pencil, a corn maze is life-size and you find your way by walking the trails that are cut into the cornfield. Corn Mazes only last a few months before the plants dry out and are harvested. So before the corn mazes over, I went corn maze with some of my friends in school for the first time in my life. Even though it wasn’t the hunted corn maze, it was kind of scary to me but I could be able to made it because my friends were therewith me.I think October is a really busy and interesting month in Americaand I like it a lot! I even don’t want October to finish haha!
